DRUMTRACK HD SONG PANEL
The Song panel is where you copy or create new patterns (top row) and
assemble your patterns into song structures (bottom row) that you can save and
reload in DrumTrackHD or export to SoundCloud or other applications through the Clipboard.

DrumTrackHD Song Panel
To open the Song Panel, select the Button in the DrumTrackHD Toolbar.
Toolbar
- In the top toolbar, the File Open and File Save icons allow you to save and reopen song structures in DrumTrackHD.
NOTE:
Even if the Pattern/Song Switch to the right of the display is set to Pat., you can only save and reload songs with the Open and File Save buttons.
- Click in the title display window to rename your song; make sure your Pattern/Song Switch is set to Song.
- See Toolbar, documented separately, for other standard Toolbar features.
Pattern List
- On the top row, the Pattern List contains all the Patterns that you create/duplicate/export with the tools on the left
(Note: you modify patterns in the Main Pattern Panel).
- A Pattern is always selected in Pattern List (by default, the first pattern when you first launch DrumTrackHD).
IMPORTANT: The selected Pattern determines what Pattern Instance is
added to the Song Structure or is reassigned to a Pattern Instance in
the Song Structure (by double clicking on the instance).
- When creating new Patterns or duplicating existing ones, new Patterns are inserted after the selected Pattern and become the selected pattern in turn.
- Double click on a Pattern in the Pattern List to open it in the Pattern Panel.
- When the content exceeds the Pattern List window, you can
scroll (click and drag horizontally) anywhere in the view to
see the rest of the content.
- Drag and drop your patterns from the Pattern List Window to the Song Structure Window to quickly create Pattern Instances.
- You can also delete Pattern Instances by dragging and releasing them outside the song structure window.

its instances in the Song Structure. There are over 30 pre-defined
color values that can be assigned to the Pattern icon. To change its
color, click on the colorize button until it is the color you desire.
Delete Pattern
- Deletes the selected Pattern.
Note: Deleting pattern from the pattern list will make all pattern instances in the song structure disappear as well.
Export: Email Pattern in General MIDI or WAV Format, Render to Disk or Upload Pattern to SoundCloud
Regardless of how you choose to export your pattern or song, you will get the option to specify the data format, sample rate and mono or stereo. You can preview your sound file as well.
Email
- The selected pattern in the pattern list will be emailed in
General MIDI or WAV Format for use in the DAW of your choice. Note: Your
iPad Mail program must be configured correctly for this
feature to work.

- The MIDI pattern export is one track where each drum instrument
corresponds to General MIDI notes, e.g. Bass Drum =C1, Snare Drum = D1,
etc.
Publish Online with SoundCloud
- Upload patterns or songs to SoundCloud. If you have a SoundCloud account, you can publish your patterns online using the Mail Button in the Pattern List (or songs using the Mail Button in the Song Structure) and selecting Upload to SoundCloud.
- Author Authentication Window:
The first time you connect (or when you press Reset in the SoundCloud Window), you will need to authenticate your SoundCloud account in Safari, so you will be prompted to Launch Safari. You will need to supply your login and password and select Allow Access. This will bring you back to DrumTrack8. The second time you select Upload to SoundCloud, you will get the SoundCloud Upload window below.

- SoundCloud Upload Window:
- You need to fill out the title, an optional genre, an optional description, whether the song is public (default) or private, downloable or streamable.
Hint: To close the text entry window once you have filled in the Description, you need to switch back to title or genre field before pressing Return.
- Once complete, select the Upload Button. The progress bar below the Upload button shows how much of the song has been uploaded to the SoundCloud Server.
- When uploading is complete, Close the SoundCloud window with the Close button.
- If you need to reset or switch your SoundCloud user account, use the Reset button. You will then return to the Author Authentication Window.
Render To Disk
USB File Transfer is the fastest and the easiest way transfer files to and from DrumTrackHD from your computer.
Apple provides a way to transfer files to applications via a USB cable in their iTunes computer program. This method requires that iOS 3.2 or later is installed on your device.
USB file transfer using Apple's iTunes computer program (iTunes File Sharing)
To transfer files with iTunes program:
- Start iTunes on your computer (make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes)
- Connect your iPad to your computer via USB cable.
- Click on your device's name on the left pane of iTunes window.
- Select the Apps tab on the right pane of iTunes window.
- Scroll down the window until you find the File Sharing section.
- Select DrumTrackHD in the list of apps that support iTunes File Sharing.
- In this window you will find documents stored in My Documents folder of DrumTrackHD.
- At the top level are DrumTrack format songs and any files that were Rendered to Disk in to format you specified when exporting.
- Select the song and drag it to your desktop or select the Save To button.
- NOTE: /UserSamples : User samples contains the sound samples that you upload via the Wifi to create Custom Drum Kits. Due to current hardware constraints, you must use Wifi to transfer files to this directory.
- Apple has chosen not to allow dropping folders to this window, so drop only files.
Copy Pattern To Clipboard
- Copy the selected pattern (as audio file) using AudioCopy* (FourTrack) protocol or Intua (Beat Maker) public pasteboard method, allowing users to export Pattern audio files to many compatible apps.
Song Structure
On the bottom row, is the Song Structure window.
- The song structure is created by adding Pattern Instances of the Patterns (i.e. prototypes) listed in the Pattern List.
- Click on the Add Pattern Instance Button to add instances of the selected pattern to the song structure, or drag and drop your patterns from the Pattern List Window to the Song Structure Window to quickly create Pattern Instances.
- You can also delete Pattern Instances by dragging and releasing them outside the song structure window.
- You can drag and drop your Pattern Instances to reorganize them quickly and easily.
The song structure is read in rows from left to right.
- Clicking once selects/deselects a Pattern Instance.
NOTE: Unlike in the Pattern List, new pattern instances will be added just before the selected pattern instance; otherwise, if no
pattern instance is selected, new instances are
added at the end of the song structure.
- Clicking twice assigns the currently selected pattern in the Pattern List to the pattern instance in the Song Structure.
- IMPORTANT: When the content exceeds the Song Structure window, two finger click and drag vertically anywhere in the view to
see the rest of the content.
- The number of pattern instances in your song is listed in the Song
Structure tools..
